David Shayer, 73, of Wynnewood, PA passed away on October 17, 2017 at Wesley Enhanced Living in Media, PA. Shayer was born and raised in Wynnewood and attended Haverford High School.
In 1963, David Shayer was one of the original announcers for a newly formed radio station, WDVR 101 FM in Philadelphia. The station played easy listening favorites and today is known as More FM. Although Shayer spent many years at WDVR in the late 1960s and early 1970s, he also worked at KBMS in Los Angeles and KUMU in Honolulu. His final employment in the radio industry was with WWSH FM 106 in Philadelphia from 1974 to 1979. He then joined the Service Planning and Schedules department of SEPTA.
Shayer was a member of the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia, known as "the Official Historians of Philadelphia Radio and Television" where he was a regular fixture at monthly meetings. He enjoyed talking about his radio experiences and sharing his knowledge of Philadelphia radio history of which he was an important part. In addition to broadcasting history, Shayer was interested in trains and talked about his experiences riding them on his trips to Europe.
